Season 57 Hall of Fame Voting

We failed to elect anyone to the Hall last season after having back-to-back seasons where we put two guys into Virtual Cooperstown. Over the past few seasons, I have based my HOF blog post on a combination of previous vote totals and Wins Above Replacement. However, I also forgot to record the vote totals from last season so I am instead going to base my efforts mainly on Wins Above Replacement this season. As a general reminder, I use the following guidelines in terms of HOF worthiness: 100+ is a Slam Dunk HOF’er, 70-99 WAR is a Definite HOF’er, 50-69 is worthy of strong consideration and 49 or fewer WAR needs some help to get in.

Most of the totals that I used last season were estimates, so I am going to focus on the highest estimated totals from last season and calculate their exact WAR totals which account for both the parks they played in and the positions that they played to see how that changes the list. Out of the guys that I evaluated last season, the top five estimated totals were Pablo Corpas (~74 WAR), Ubaldo Otanez (~67 WAR), James Moore (~64 WAR), Glen Lowell (~62 WAR) and Carlos Valentin (~58 WAR.)

  • Pablo Corpas' adjusted WAR total is 65.80, which makes him Worthy of Strong Consideration
  • James Moore's adjusted WAR total is 51.16, which makes him Worthy of Strong Consideration
  • Glen Lowell's adjusted WAR total is 47.30 which makes him In Need Of Help To Get In
  • Ubaldo Otanez's adjusted WAR total is 48.04 which makes him In Need Of Help To Get In
  • Carlos Valentin's adjusted WAR total is 25.83 which makes him In Need Of Help To Get In
Since I have finished looking at the top five guys and don't yet have five names that I'm sold on for my ballot this year, I am going to look at the next five on the list: Sandy Mieske (~57 WAR), Guillermo Gutierrez (~56 WAR), Elian Rojas Jr (~50 WAR), Al Cabrera (~50 WAR), Maikel Romano (~49 WAR.)
  • Guillermo Gutierrez's adjusted WAR total is 47.61, which makes him In Need Of Help To Get In
  • Elian Rojas Jr.'s adjusted WAR is 69.54, which makes him Worthy of Strong Consideration

I was able to write that much of the post prior to rollover, but now that we are fully in the swing of HOF voting, here is a list of the top five previous vote totals along with their WAR totals and classifications:
  • Guillermo Gutierrez, 1 vote shy of election in Season 54, had 47.61 WAR which makes him In Need Of Help To Get In
  • Pablo Corpas, 2 votes shy of election in Season 55, had 65.80 WAR which makes him Worthy of Strong Consideration
  • James Moore, 7 votes shy of election in Season 53, had 51.16 WAR which makes him Worthy of Strong Consideration
  • Kordell Rivers, 7 votes shy of election in Season 56, had 62 Estimated WAR which makes him Worthy of Strong Consideration
  • Osvaldo Lee, 8 votes shy of election in Season 54, had 28 Estimated WAR which makes him In Need Of Help To Get In
  • Miguel Tapies, 8 votes shy of election in Season 55, had 102 Estimated WAR which makes him a Slam Dunk HOF'er
Other players who have been mentioned on the World Chat so far include:
