In the offseason, "change" for DC came in the form of several new middle infielders, via trade, free agency, and the Rule 5 draft. The team has also promoted power hitting young catching prospect Bert Koch who should add some pop to the Monuments right away.
Vicente Melendez, Grover Mills, Marv Garcia, Pedro Alvarez, and Nerio Mays lead a balanced and impressive offensive attack. While none of these players eclipsed the 30 HR mark last year, part of that is due to playing in a park that is not homer friendly, unless we are talking Homer Bailey of course, who would like the dimensions.
Pitching wise, the team has five legitimate big league starters, including Shawn Foxx, Chad Sanders, the ageless Tony Meng, Rico Fernandez, and Andres Mercedes. Edgar Gonzalez and Gabe Matthews headline a nice bullpen as well.
Yes, Change is coming to Washington in Season 13, with or without town hall meetings, Glen Beck, Barack Obama, and "death panels." And that change will be a DC team competing for a wild card spot, hoping to recapture the magic of the franchise's legacy of 3 World Titles.
